• This camelid does not require much special care.
• The annual vaccines are necessary; they are most vulnerable to certain bacteria and ectoparasitess (pasturella and acarus of mange), that are easily avoided through vaccination and fumigation.
• Depending on the terrain, the cutting of the nails every six months might be convenient.
• It is also necessary, at least in Spain, for them to be sheared before the summer, in the month of May.
• Regardless of their resistance to harsh temperature changes between the day and the night, they need a place where they can find refuge at night.
• They feed off grass and the contribution of minerals and proteins that have to be supplied is minimal and in many cases unnecessary if the grass has an adequate composition.
• The maintenance cost of the alpaca is minimal.
